Fall back to great skin! Seasonal changes bring different needs to your skin care routine. Whether it is hydration in the winter, deep cleaning for spring, oil control in the summer or brightening in the fall, our changing weather can wreak havoc on your skin. Get your skin Thanksgiving ready this fall with our feature ingredient ~ Pumpkin!

s

That’s right, not only do we LOVE the return of the pumpkin-spice latte and pumpkin pie come autumn but that wonderful aromatic ingredient is also beneficial for your skin!

s

Pumpkin pulp is a dynamic ingredient that can help control acne and hyperpigmentation. This is something that all but highly sensitized skin types could benefit from. Post summer we tend to feel a bit clogged from all the extra time spent outdoors in the elements. While we tend to be a little more active (and sweaty) in the summer months, taking advantage of that extra time outside exposes us to dust, pollution and free radical damage. Even with a fantastic non-clogging sunscreen we all tend to have that dull, clogged complexion come summers end. This is where Pumpkin can come to our rescue (alongside some other powerful antioxidants and treatments of course) to fight against free radical damage.

s

For the month of October we are featuring our spot light product Mini Pumpkin Mask by Dermaquest. With its top ingredients being pumpkin, mandelic and lactic acids, it is sure to resurface, decongest clogged pores and brighten for a smooth and glowing complexion. Not only would this be a fantastic add-on to a Deep Pore Cleansing Facial in a professional setting, but you can purchase this for the benefits of weekly use at home!

Pro At-Home tips

s

Use in the shower for 5-7 minutes. The steam provides a boosting effect to activate the enzymes!

Be sure to thoroughly remove with tepid water as this mask DOES NOT self-neutralize.

Do not use with other highly exfoliating products, such as retinol, and other high percentage AHA/ BHA’s (think glycolic and salicylic acids)

You want to wait at least 5 days in-between at-home resurfacing treatments.

Follow with a hydrating mask for the added benefits of optimal absorption.

What about procedures?

s

Products are not the only way that we can fight back against the dulling and clogging effects of summer. In house procedures alongside products would be most beneficial for our skin goals. The most popular treatments come fall are:

s

IPL (intense pulsed light) or PhotoFacial – this is a treatment that is great to treat pigmented and vascular lesions. The benefits are improved appearance of:  age spots (red/brown pigmentations), avscular lesions such as facial capillaries (spider veins), rosacea (redness), freckles, sun damage.

s

Dermaplaning – This is a cosmetic procedure that removes the top layers of your skin by using a surgical blade to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, acne scarring, and pore size. It is also known as a great party ready procedure as it removes vellus hairs for a smoother makeup application and aides in the better absorption of products for a dewy glow.

s

Chemical Peels – This is when a specific acid such as AHA/ BHA’s or an enzyme is applied to the skin to help reduce various skin concerns such as pigmentation, scarring, fine lines and wrinkles and red or dull complexions. With over 18 different types of chemical peels, SkinScience definitely has the answer to every skin type, even the most sensitive. Professional chemical peels can range from light peels with little to no downtime, to deeper peels with downtime of a week in most cases.

s

Depending on your concerns and lifestyle, we can customize a series of exfoliating peels that will complement your prescription products and/or skin care regime to enhance and accelerate results.

s

These treatments alone or combined (for a more accelerated approach) are best for resurfacing, brightening and evening out skin tone. Dermaplaning and Chemical Peels are also a great step to do to before a more advanced treatment such as IPL. Doing this beforehand will help rid the skin of any residual tan that may be left from summer and will better prepare the skin for IPL.

Here at SkinScience we have you covered no matter the season. We can customize each treatment to every individual for optimal results. Book in for your consultation today!
