At SkinScience, we take your skin care to the next level with the SkinBuilders!

The eternal quest for perfect skin has long been a focus of women and men alike. Billions are spent worldwide every year on skincare products in the hopes of finding that one “miracle” skincare product. The one that will magically solve all “skin woes” and turn back the clock. But, can this really happen?

There may be a treatment that could be a saving grace in the field of skincare. This quiet dark horse has been making new strides and it’s gaining momentum in the skin care industry. It’s getting a lot of attention in the news and social media for its subtle yet profound changes in the health and hydration of your skin. It can actually help your products work more efficiently.

What is Mesotherapy?

Invented in Europe, and perfected over decades, mesotherapy is a painless non-invasive SkinBuilder procedure. The procedure involves micro-injections of active ingredients, cocktailed to your skin and concerns. This advanced anti-aging treatment helps replenish what is missing deep within the skin as we age. It helps correct visible signs of aging and pigmentation. It can also help to reverse structural damage from cosmetic filler injections.

Over 56 different combinations of actives are possible at SkinScience, including:

  • Growth factors
  • Hyaluronic Acid (non crossed linked)
  • Vitamins
  • Minerals
  • Cofactors
  • Peptides
  • Argireline
  • Glutathione
  • Tranexamic Acid
  • DMEA
  • Azelaic Acid
  • Kojic Acid
  • Alpha-Arbutin
  • Niacinamide
  • L-Carnitine
  • and more!

Following an in-depth skin analysis, your specific cocktail will be curated for your skin concerns. Then it is injected into the skin using an automated injection device. The SkinBuilders can provide immediate and lasting beneficial rejuvenating effects after just a few treatments. It also improves the absorption of skincare products and the integrity and structure of your skin. Meso, from the meaning “middle”, is performed using micro injections into the superficial dermis. When absorbed, the treatment will allow for a more evenly hydrated, healthy and youthful complexion. This 30- to 60-minute treatment is quite painless, even for the most sensitive persons and skin conditions.

What makes this treatment unique?

Let us use an analogy of the “dry sponge”.

We all know what a sponge looks like when it is dry – it’s quite hard and shriveled up. Before we would use it to clean the house, we would typically wet the sponge under the tap and ring it out before applying the cleaner to the sponge. If we apply the product to the sponge before wetting it, most of the product would simply roll off the sponge and fall down the drain. If, however, we wet the sponge first with some water and ring it out, the sponge will absorb more of the product we apply. Quite simply put, products are much better absorbed into the skin when it is hydrated. We can also cocktail other ingredients to target post inflammatory hyperpigmentation from old acne scarring, rosacea and hyperpigmentation to lighten and brighten one’s complexion.

How long does it last?

Everyone’s skin will have varying results. We generally see lasting improvement for many months at a time when a series of 3 SkinBuilders are completed. The series of 3 treatments would be performed every 3 to 4 weeks. Results are often noticed after the initial treatment, and are more noticeable in the weeks following. Single treatments can certainly be performed every few months as well to boost and maintain results.

How long does the treatment take?

This treatment is surprisingly very quick! It can be done over your lunch hour. It doesn’t require any numbing as it’s performed in the superficial dermis so there is little to no pain. As long as you are a good candidate, the entire treatment can be done in less than an hour and you are on your way.

Who isn’t a good candidate for the SkinBuilders?

While there are not too many people who mesotherapy isn’t suitable for, like everything, this treatment isn’t for everyone. The SkinBuilders exclusion list is fairly short. Just because you may not be a candidate today, it does not mean that you won’t be a candidate one day.

Exclusion Criteria to SkinBuilders

– Active acne
– Eczema or psoriasis (wait until skin is healed)
– Skin infections (i.e. active cold sores)
– Susceptible to keloids (this applies to any injections)
– Uncontrolled diabetes
– Any type of bleeding disorder
– Taking prescription blood thinners
– Immunocompromised individuals
– Pregnancy or breastfeeding
– Individuals who are sick or have an active fever
– Individuals with poor lymphatic drainage

Is there any downtime?

As with many injections, it is normal to have some downtime. Pinpoint bruising is the most common side effect. This does not indicate a poor treatment or outcome. It is merely dependent on skin thickness and a few other variables. Some people bruise more easily than others. It is also common to see tiny bumps or raised areas where the product has been injected. This is typically absorbed within 24 to 48 hours. There are tips and tricks to minimize bruising and other effects associated with mesotherapy. We make sure to communicate that to you before your treatment.

How safe are the SkinBuilder Treatments?

Cosmetic injection procedures like mesotherapy have an excellent safety profile. Short-term effects, such as mild discomfort, redness, swelling, and bruising are relatively common and an expected consequence of the injections themselves. True complications are rare, especially with formulations composed of “non-permanent” filler materials, such as non-cross linked HA. Please ensure you are confident with your clinic and that their products are authentic to avoid dangerous and unsafe outcomes. Your skin health depends on it.

It’s important to do your research and educate yourself on any treatment or procedure that you are considering. There may be contraindications that may mean the procedure may not be appropriate for you at that moment or possibly not at all. Your clinic should be able to recommend an alternate treatment plan.

Remember, ultimately you and your skincare provider should have a consultation regarding your individual skin concerns. Based on that, your skincare provider can decide on a customized treatment plan that is safe, effective and comfortable for you.
