We get the question a lot “Do I need an IPL Photofacial?”. Frequently you will hear us respond “No one NEEDS an IPL”, there has never been a reported case of hospitalization due to not having one 😉  The question should be, who can benefit from an IPL and who will love that they did it!  Everyone loves it, but here are some of the general guidelines we use, to help clients determine if this is the right procedure for themselves.

What bothers you?

The first question is always, what do you want to improve?  If the first thing(s) on your list include: uneven skin tone, redness, broken capillaries, brown spots, sun spots or the like, then IPL is a great option for you to consider.  If you aren’t bothered by any of those, then don’t worry about it and move on.

Do you spend a lot of time in the sun?

You golf all summer in Calgary, and travel throughout the winter months to sunny destinations, you try your best to remember sunscreen but you aren’t always consistent…… Then IPL might NOT be the best choice for you.  IPL is safest when clients skin is not tanned. So, if you are a sun bunny, maybe hold off until you have a stretch of time where you won’t be sun kissed.

Do you want natural looking results, that are still noticeable?

If you want to avoid looking “overdone”, “plastic, or “artificial” then IPL is absolutely one of your best options.  IPL Photofacials improve your own skin, without changing it.  You will look just like yourself, only with smoother, with more even skin tone and a brighter firmer overall complexion!

How much downtime can you do?

If you are looking for a no downtime treatment, then that is one more reason to seriously consider a series of IPL Photofacial treatments.  After an IPL, most people report only very mild redness.  Makeup is fine soon after, and will help camouflage dark spots that might be a little more noticeable until they fade 7-10 days after your IPL Photofacial. Most clients return right away to their regularly scheduled activites.

IPL Photofacial: Looking for fast results?

IPL Photofacials offer notable results about 7 days post treatment.  Positive results will continue, but most clients see a notable reduction in brown spots a week after treatment!

IPL Photofacial: Are you pregnant?

Then you will need to wait until you are not pregnant and done breastfeeding (if you choose to breastfeed). There have been no reported negative side effects to a baby in utero, but as in so many things pregnancy related, better safe than sorry!

IPL Photofacial: Are you trying to prevent the signs of aging?

Even if you only have a few sunspots and broken capillaries, an IPL Photofacial might be an ideal choice. IPL not only reduces and eliminates brown spots and unwanted facial capillaries, it STIMULATES COLLAGEN.  I repeat, it stimulates collagen.  It does an amazing job of targeting and stimulating superficial collagen, which will help shrink pores, reduce fine lines, and create firmer looking skin!
